Adding Moisture into the MODES Framework
Bradley Kumm
Decompositions have long been used to understand the large scale circulation of the atmosphere. It is known that the atmospheric state can be decomposed into a vortical or Rossby mode component and inertia-gravity mode components. MODES is a software framework which has been designed to numerically perform this decomposition for horizontal wind components and Geopotential height for a dry atmosphere. Here we will present a method to perform a similar decomposition to account for water vapor within the MODES framework.
