The latest urban climate models, like PALM4U (https://palm.muk.uni-hannover.de/), can resolve every single building and will guide us to develop urban districts adapted to climate change. However, how does turbulence slow down the wind at vertical walls of buildings, which can now be resolved for the first time? To answer this open question, we have installed very sensitive ultrasonic anemometers at two outriggers at the west front of the Geomatikum building. These measurements contribute to the “Urban climate und change project [UC]2” (www.uc2-program.org). In parallel, students directly analyse these novel measurements in a study project. The brand new results will be presented at the METTOOLS XI conference at the end of September.
