Within the framework of METTOOLS XI, the symposium of the Expert Committee on Environmental Meteorology (FA UMET) of the German Meteorological Society, our colleague Prof. Heinke Schlünzen was awarded the Reinhard Süring Plaque. The DMG presents this award to personalities who have rendered outstanding scientific or organisational services to the aims of the DMG (and its predecessor societies). In his laudation, Prof. Stefan Emeis from the selection committee acknowledged Ms Schlünzen's nationally and internationally successful work in the field of environmental meteorology, her outstanding commitment to the development and application of contemporary models for solving practical environmental meteorological problems, and in the field of technology transfer between science and practice. He also pointed out that in various honorary offices and committees such as the FA UMET, the Naturschutzrat and the Climate Council of the Hamburg Senate, she greatly contributes to the visibility of meteorological research and development in wider circles of society.
The prize was presented by the First Chairman of the DMG, Prof. Clemens Simmer. We congratulate Heinke on behalf of the entire Meteorological Institute!
