Weather Satellites Receive Microwaves From the Moon

5 October 2016

Repeated observations of the Moon with weather satellites can be used to monitor certain properties of their scientific payload in flight. In an article for the Summer 2016 Issue of the GSICS Quarterly Newsletter, Martin Burgdorf describes how this concept - already well-tried with visible wavelengths - can be applied to microwaves. DOI: 10.7289/V5GT5K7S (pdf)

Another article in this newsletter is about FIDUCEO, a project with the aim to harmonise and recalibrate
data from satellite sensors. The Meteorological Institute is here responsible for the part that deals with
microwave measurements.
