VALIUM

Development and Validation of Tools for the Implementation
Of European Air Quality Policy in Germany

Project Overview

Projekt 07ATF12

Coordinator: Michael Schatzmann

University of Hamburg, Germany

Supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research under the Atmospheric Research Programme 2000

OBJECTIVES AND FIELDS OF ACTIVITY

  • VALIUM develops and validates a hierarchy of numerical models (model system M - SYS) that can be applied as tools for the execution of European air quality policy
  • VALIUM creates a new methodology for the set-up of micro-scale traffic emission models
  • VALIUM develops and applies new cluster analysis techniques for the classification of high concentration episodes
  • VALIUM creates a new and up to now unique set of data for the validation of local scale, obstacle resolving flow and dispersion models, based on a combination of field and wind tunnel experiments
  • VALIUM demonstrates the applicability of the newly developed instruments as tools for the execution of European air quality policy
