Wind tunnel experiments and simulations feature prominently in the research of the Meteorological Institute. Subjects covered include for instance

• the consequences of accidental release of dangerous/hazardous liquids and gases
• dispersion of fire plumes
• urban air quality and pollution studies
• odour dispersion modelling
• support of field measurements and enhancement of field data
• pedestrian wind comfort studies
• industrial release modelling
• snow drift modelling
  

Much of the research is done for public bodies and sponsored from public funds. Therefore, one of the main objectives of this website is to have the knowledge gained published as widely as possible in order that it may be best taken into account in decisions affecting public and industrial safety. We want to put the results of wind tunnel studies truly into the public domain, providing extensive information on results of research projects and applied windtunnel research.
